Spiders and Ghosts                   Max Wolf Valerio

Ghosts

in highway taxis

living out on the looming

red     desert

roaming while

the sun          drops

to cactus or levitates

                                buoyant  —

close to bobbing

star apples

intricate exposed

spiders

living

through

labyrinths winding in

bursts   —

leaping in parachutes

across microscopic canyons and

scooping        sharp edges

clots of gray   and clots of red         sand

those spiders who sing

in

sliding

voices

slipping

through the cracks

in

floors

of saloons and

through the doors

that divide

dreams from daylight

singing to ghosts

who fly in motorcycle

ecstasy      blinding

the moon   —
